Starr and Cymphanie were seated at a booth enjoying their lunch at Rigsby’s Kitchen in Columbus, Ohio when Starr recapped her various symptoms.

“My period was light for a few months and then it just completely disappeared,” Starr explained. “At first I didn’t think anything of it…I just thought it was one of my weird cycles—”

“Now that you mention it I do remember you throwing up that morning at my crib.”

“Right,” Starr agreed. “But other than that I really didn’t feel any different—”

“I ain’t tryin’ to be funny, but you did put on a lil’ weight since the last time I saw you,” Cymphanie said.

Starr paused and rolled her eyes at her older cousin. Cymphanie never missed an opportunity to point out someone else’s flaws, but she was the most dysfunctional motherfucker Starr knew.

“Thanks for noticing,” Starr said, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “Anyway last night I went and got a test from Rite Aid. I didn’t even wait until I got home…I pissed on the stick right outside of my car, girl,” she admitted.

Cymphanie took a bite out of the Canlis salad and shook her head in disbelief. “Damn…I ain’t know you and Fame were going at it like that. Got damn, Starr. You ain’t even known the nigga a whole two months and you already lettin’ him swim raw? I mean, I know he got you your own spot, but damn—”

“That’s the thing, Cymphanie,” Starr cut her off. “Me and Fame strap up every time. And he’s anal about that shit, girl.”

“So did you fuck anybody before Fame raw?” Cymphanie asked. “Shit, now that I think back to it, you were throwing up before you even met the nigga, Fame.”

Starr shook her head. “No—I mean there was one guy, but even we strapped up.”

Cymphanie stared at her cousin with a sympathetic expression. She gently placed her hand on top of Starr’s. “Cuz…you gotta go find out how far along you are.”
